Objectives:
The session will provide case studies on copyright challenges related to data collection for research purposes in African and Latin American AI projects, in order to:
- Promote AI development in the region and foster local research.
- Demonstrate the advantages of copyright exceptions for computational analysis activities and the need for legal certainty to perform these activities in the Global South.

Prof. Beatriz Busaniche. Expert in intellectual property and digital rights and lecturer at the University of Buenos Aires and FLACSO Argentina. Member of the Data team of the Latam-GPT project. President of Vía Libre Foundation.


Prof. Gloria Emezue. Expert in Gender studies and Digital Humanities. Researcher at Lanfrica, Nigeria
Chebet Koros. Expert in intellectual property law and researcher at CIPIT, Strathmore University, Kenya
